Biography
Praised for her commitment to emotion and storytelling, Charlotte Sleet is establishing herself as a versatile singer equally at home as a soloist and an ensemble musician.
As a soloist, Charlotte has performed the Duruflé Requiem with the Philharmonia Orchestra. Other recent engagements include Bach’s Matthew Passion, Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9, Vivaldi’s Gloria, and Boulanger’s De Profundis. She is a passionate recitalist, focussing on Lieder and the intersection between art song and cabaret, and has given acclaimed recitals in London, Oxford and Herefordshire.
Her ensemble experience includes performances with The Carice Singers, Huelgas Ensemble, The Lyons Mouth, and the Philharmonia Chorus. Charlotte has recorded with the BBC Singers and the Royal Shakespeare Company, and sung for national radio broadcasts with Christ Church Cathedral Choir, Hereford Cathedral Choir, Selene Consort, and numerous broadcasts from the Three Choirs Festival.
Charlotte was the first female Lay Clerk at Hereford Cathedral in the choir’s history, and later appointed as a Lay Clerk at Christ Church Cathedral, Oxford. During this time she was also a choral scholar with the Oxford Bach Soloists. She can now be found in many of the professional church choirs across London.
Further afield, Charlotte has established a long-term collaboration with Ad Parnassum, a Venice-based ensemble specialising in 14th-17th century repertoire. With this ensemble she delivers outreach classes across Italy alongside concerts and operatic productions, and is privileged to have travelled extensively across the Veneto and Calabria over a number of years.
Charlotte trained at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire, where she was a prizewinner in the Lieder and English Song prizes. During her studies she was a choral scholar at St Chad’s Catholic Cathedral and was an Ex Cathedra student scholar.
Three Choirs Festival, directed by Geraint Bowen ~ Duruflé Requiem Pie Jesu
Charlotte Sleet sang with great assurance and a very nice, evenly produced tone. She sang expressively but in a very natural fashion. This was an impressive piece of singing.
